Puppy Insurance Needs

Puppies need a special kind of care and as they grow there are some expenses you can plan on. Some of the most basic insurance coverage you can get will cover the following:

Things that might not be covered

If you are currently looking for pet insurance keep in mind that there will be things that are not covered. Some of these might become a big problem if they are considered pre-existing even if you don't know your dog has them now. Pre-Existing Conditions

A pre-existing condition is an injury or illness that began or was contracted before the date your policy coverage begins. Some pre-existing conditions are temporary and may be covered if the condition has been cured for at least six months. Some pre-existing conditions are permanent and might not be covered so make sure you understand this before you buy expensive coverage only to find out there's a problem.

Congenital Disorders

Congenital disorders or developmental defects are pre-existing conditions by definition so these aren't covered either. Congenital disorders are abnormalities that are present at birth and can cause illness or disease. Check with your vet about these.

Hereditary Disorders

Hereditary disorders are abnormalities that are genetically transmitted from parent to offspring and may cause illness or disease. There are certain breed-specific hereditary conditions that are not covered by many insurance companies and you should be sure to check into this when comparing insurers.
